You’ll probably get some collection calls as the accounts are being transitioned over to us. Remember, we are not making payments to your creditors each month. Aggressive collectors may use unscrupulous tactics in attempting to collect. Most people just ignore the calls because they have caller ID, but if you want the calls to stop, pick up the phone and tell them ‘I’m sorry, I don’t handle financial matters over the phone. Just send it in writing and I’ll respond to it that way’ and then hang up on them. This works in most cases, as you have Federal rights to request that creditors and collectors contact you in writing rather than on the phone. Don’t talk to the collectors. They are just there to intimidate you, to scare you, to try to trip you up, and to get you to say something that they can try to use against you. So again don’t talk to the collectors. Tell them that and that usually does it. It’s unusual to still get calls after you’ve told them that a couple of times. IN ALL CASES, please use the Creditor Contact Form to record information about the call. We need you to record these contacts so that we can be sure that your creditors abide by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
